    • Richard Nixon became the first United States president to resign from office. Vice-President Gerald Ford took his place. Ford granted Nixon a full pardon
    • Primitive word processors began to appear in offices. 
    • Congress approved the Election Reform Act. This act limited contributions to presidential campaigns and capped the presidential candidate's budget.
    • The CAT scanner  [enhances diagnosis] was developed by EMI Records. 
    • Inflation was climbing.
    • India detonated an atomic bomb and became the fifth nuclear power in the world. 
    • The Heimlich Maneuver was described in a medical journal by Dr. Henry Heimlich. This method was then adopted by the world as a life saving technique to prevent people from chocking to death.

    • The last American troops were leaving Vietnam.
    • Bill Gates and Paul Allen founded Microsoft.
